Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing
This 5-day intensive program provides a complete, application-driven mastery of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) based on ASME standards. Participants move beyond simply reading symbols, gaining a deep understanding of how GD&T affects part fit, assembly performance, manufacturability, and inspection reliability. The program connects design intent with real-world manufacturing and inspection practices, enabling participants to make functional decisions, reduce errors, and improve communication across design, production, and quality teams.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Interpret GD&T standards, symbols, and tolerance zones according to ASME conventions
Classify features of size and correctly evaluate Actual Local Size and Actual Mating Envelope (AME) for inspection and functional evaluation
Apply profile tolerancing wherever linear or distance tolerancing introduces functional risk
Establish functional datum reference frames and apply datum symbols and targets correctly on engineering drawings
Apply material condition modifiers (RFS, MMC, LMC) and calculate bonus tolerance
Select, draw, and inspect all 12 geometric tolerances with correct symbols, modifiers, and datum referencing based on design intent
Module 1: GD&T Overview – Foundations for Functional Design Participants will understand essential GD&T standards, symbols, tolerance zones, and datum references. |
Module 2: Feature of Size and Size Tolerance Participants will classify features of size and interpret size requirements for accurate inspection and functional evaluation. |
Module 3: Distance Tolerancing Participants will apply profile tolerancing where linear dimensions may introduce functional risk. |
Module 4: Datum and Datum Selection Participants will establish functional datum reference frames and correctly apply datum symbols and targets. |
Module 5: Fundamentals Before Geometric Tolerances Participants will apply material condition modifiers, bonus tolerances, and feature control frames correctly. |
Modules 6–10: The 12 Geometric Tolerances Participants will select, specify, and inspect form, orientation, location, runout, and profile controls based on design intent. |
